Fluids Energy Turbo Expo 2017

Understanding the physical processes behind flame
extinction is very important as it limits the operability range of engines.
This is even more crucial with the prevailing trends of using less fuel, i.e.
burning lean, or using alternative fuels whose extinction behaviour is not well
understood. This study aims to understand the exact nature of the extinction
process of flames using advanced laser diagnostics and high-speed imaging
apparatus to obtain non-intrusive, in-situ measurements which allow for a
highly detailed quantitative and qualitative analysis of the extinction
mechanism.
