Fluids Energy Turbo Expo 2017

A simple laminar premixed flame is modelled using a
level set approach and subjected to velocity forcing to identify the mechanisms
of heat release oscillations. This flame model is coupled with a linear
acoustic solver to study self-excited oscillations. Regimes in which the flame
exhibits triggering are identified. Next steps to extend this model to a more
realistic situation are identified – including a vortical velocity field,
equivalence ratio variation and a more realistic flame geometry.
