Fluids Energy Turbo Expo 2017

Karthik Depuru (Energy)

Aircraft jet noise has been a major community concern since the 1940s.
Consequently, many noise-suppression devices have been developed to
address this issue. The most promising one amongst such devices is
chevrons. The objective is to identify the noise sources in a chevron
jet for the given flow-field from a reduced-order turbulence model such
as Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) model instead of expensive
Large Eddy Simulation (LES) model. This will significantly reduce the
computational cost involved in the jet noise prediction.
