Vertical Axis turbines are ideally suited for
deployment in urban environments. If they are to be usable in such close
proximity to homes and offices it is essential that the noise is well
understood and well controlled. A basic computational acoustic model is being
developed which, in combination with wind tunnel experiments, hopes to provide
a better insight into the noise generation mechanisms in VAWTs.
