Fluids Energy Turbo Expo 2017

Vikrant Gupta (Energy)

Linear stability analysis for laminar flows has proved to be useful in
predicting the flow instability for a large number of cases. However, in
case of turbulent flows it does not have much success and only a limited
number of flows can be dealt with present methods. This is partly true
because almost all the work in linear stability uses eddy viscosity model
(EVM) to obtain linearized perturbation equations. In such case, it might
be helpful if we apply Reynolds stress model (RSM) for stability analysis.
We present the application of explicit-algebraic-RSM for fully developed
turbulent channel flow.
