Dr Tom Gibson joined the Airbus Aerodynamics Department in Filton in 1998 after completing a PhD in transonic shock wave control at the University of Cambridge. He initially worked on topics related to research and development – first in support of the A380, and afterwards in the development of new wing shape design methodologies for use in all subsequent Airbus aircraft designs. He then held leading roles in the development of the shapes for the A350XWB wing and the A320 family ‘Sharklet’ wing tip. Currently, he acts as a Technical Competence Leader in Aerodynamics with technical responsibility for all Airbus’ component shape design and aerodynamic loads activities.
